Orkla on top Dow Jones Sustainability Index
Orkla is one of the leading ten per cent of food companies in terms of sustainability in Europe, according to the Dow Jones’ prestigious sustainability index.
For the 11th consecutive year Orkla is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe. This year’s total score of 63 out of 100 points is also an improvement on last year’s results.
“This is an important acknowledgement of our sustainability work. I am proud of Orkla’s employees and of the engagement and efforts that are invested to ensure that we are a frontrunner in sustainability,” says Orkla President and CEO Jaan Ivar Semlitsch.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is considered by many to be the world’s most significant ranking of companies’ environmental and social responsibility performance, and is an important benchmark for investors and other stakeholders in assessing companies’ non-financial performance.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index evaluates companies’ performance in the three main categories Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). In the Environmental category, Orkla has achieved an overall score of 71/100 and the top score of 100/100 in key areas such as environmental reporting, climate strategy, greenhouse gas emissions and development of products with a low carbon footprint.
Orkla is also ranked among the top five per cent when it comes to the development and use of packaging. This is a substantial improvement from last year, and reflects the company’s efforts to develop sustainable packaging solutions based on recoverable, recycled and renewable materials.
Orkla has been recognised again this year for its health and nutrition work, particularly related to its focus on developing healthier foods and other products that promote a healthy lifestyle.
