Press release -

Orkla commits to EU aspirational objectives for sustainable food production and consumption

Orkla is one of the first companies to commit to the EU’s sustainability objectives for the food industry.

In launching the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices, the European Commission is setting ambitious, clear objectives for ways in which the food sector is to contribute to achieving sustainable food systems. Companies in the European food industry are called on to align with and commit to these objectives.

Orkla is among the first companies to sign the EU Code of Conduct on the official launch date, 5 July.

“We want to take a leading role in promoting sustainability and will do what we can to contribute to the sustainable development of the food sector. We have already set ambitious targets, and these efforts will be further strengthened now that we have committed to the EU Code of Conduct,” says Orkla President and CEO Jaan Ivar Semlitsch.

The EU Code of Conduct defines seven general aspirational objectives. These range from contributing to a healthy, sustainable diet, efficient resource use and reduction of food waste to climate neutrality, responsible sourcing, sustainable production, circular value chains and sustainable growth and value creation. In relation to each of the seven objectives Orkla has formulated its own commitments, thereby strengthening its efforts to achieve the Group’s 2025 sustainability targets.
